AdaptCMS is an open source project that strives to get better and to get ahead of the curve, but we always will need people to help us do that. As of AdaptCMS 3.0.2, we are looking for people to join the team or to contribute in any way they'd like. Below we'll go over some of the reasons to join and how you can help exactly.
A great strength of open source software is that it's very easy to get started. Anyone can simply look at the source code, run it on their server/PC and start coding in a small amount of time. Another great thing about it is the experience one gets from getting involved with, not just AdaptCMS, but any open source software. If you don't have a job in the field currently, it's something you always have with you as a reference and can be used when you do apply for a job in the field.
If you already have a job in the web development field, it's still great to show that you are actively engaged and can help make a difference. For more specifics, AdaptCMS is currently run by one person at the moment and has been since 2006. I program, design (well, try to design!), QA and brainstorm ideas for the CMS and going back to my previous CMS's, have been doing this since about 2003-2004. One might think, How much could one person really affect a project? and it's more than you would think.
If you would like to fully join the team, you immediately have a voice in the direction of the CMS. Even if you can't contribute a ton of hours per week, just havining someone work on certain features would free me up to get more done before the next release. Unfortunately, since the software is free, we cannot pay those that join the team. But in the future, we would like to have a selection of premium items available and once we get in the red, all those on the team get a cut of those profits.
Lastly, what if you can't really do much? Say, you only have a few hours on the weekend, but you would still like to help? We'd love to have you still. With only a few hours a week, there is still plenty that could get done. QA could be be done on a decent amount of the CMS, unit tests could be written to pass, frontend could be enhanced on some sections of the system, bugs could be fixed and much more.
Below we have a form that you can fill out and we can then coordinate on getting you started with the CMS. Even if you aren't sure about joining and may just want some specifics on exactly what you'd be doing or have general questions, still feel free to fill it out and we will answer any questions you have.
